Very impressed with A&E department, didn't have to wait long to be seen & the staff were very friendly and professional.

I have been unfortunate to be a patient in Ysbyty Gwynedd several times. I want to make it clear, some of the staff are excellent, sadly they are in the minority. I am a retired nurse, so, this negativity makes me very sad. The list of things I have been dissatisfied with are too long to put here, I shall brush on just a few. I have actually asked nurses if they are paid extra to ignore patients!! my diuretics were increased, but I was given very little to drink. waited over 2 hours for a drink on one occasion, the place is dirty, recently I witnessed a cleaner, just wipe over the floor with a damp mop. Something which looked like dog muck was stuck to the floor, the mop just glided over it. It was there when I was admitted and still there when I left, the mop did not touch the sides of the floor !! Two old men after shouting and shouting they wanted bottles ended up wetting the bed (making more work for these 'poor' 'over worked' nurses) they changed the beds without washing either of the poor old men, not a bowl, wash cloth or towel in sight. Then they were asking another active patient if they could look at his pressure areas, urine is the worse thing for breaking down skin !!! Another demented old patient, was trying to get over his bed rails, I was frightened he would fall and injure himself. I shouted and shouted at the top of my voice, I could hear nurses / staff in the plaster room talking and laughing, and at the other end of the six bedder, doing the same. The chap offer me said 'they must be able to hear you, we can hear them !!!'. he was almost over the rails when someone decided to come. After one admission I came away with bedbugs even !! As a result of one stay a few years ago when I made one of my many complaints, the sister on the ward started doing a training course for her staff, it was apparently named 'Who do you think you are talking to', says it all !!!! Horrible place.

I am here in a ward right now and have been here for 4 days recovering from a tonsillectomy and I have never been so frustrated with service (or lack of) in my life. Baring in mind I can't even talk every time I have been in absolute agony and ASKED for my scheduled medication I have had to ask 3 times. Or at least 2 different staff members , pressed my emergency buzzer, and last night even got up and went to reception to beg, through being blatenly ignored. This morning was the worst, I woke up at 5.30am and felt my throat was closing up I was in floods of tears with agony so rang my buzzer and tried to explain to the nurse.. He wasn't too bothered. He came back to the ward after disappearing for 20-30 mins.. And actually woke the patient next to me up to offer her medication! He then seen 2 other patients opposite me. By now I was short of breath and choking up, i couldn't believe what I was seeing so although he was right in front of me , I couldn't talk so I rang my emergency bell AGAIN and I just hand gestured as if to say 'what the f***?!' He then seen to everyone else on the ward as laid back as possible and did a few errands including offering tea or coffee to someone, before finally giving me my medication AN HOUR AND 15 MINUTES after asking as though I was being a pain in the arse. This is one of the many many many bad examples of service I have experienced this week I will go out of my way to NOT come here again. complete negligence and bad attitude from the majority of staff. The students were actually lovely yet not allowed to do anything.

I recent went to YG on a Saturday evening after experiencing extream abdominal pain. I was in A&E for 4 hour before being admitted to Ogwen ward where I was put in a room and told I would be there until a scan on Tuesday. For the next 2 1/2 Days I was left in a room with no visits from any doctors, just being given morphine and other painkillers ...which I often had to ask for as no one was checking! I had my scan on Tuesday was told as this and my bloods were fine i was to go home. I then on Wednesday experienced more pain so today ...Thursday... visited my GP who referred me back to Ogwen ward and said they should do more investigations like a CT scan. I have just spend 4 hours back up there and as before as my bloods are ok have been sent home and told that if my GP wants a CT scan he should send me for one. As the pain comes and goes I should just go back to a&e when it gets bad again! I have seen a DR for all of 10mins the whole time I've been there and they are basing everythingon blood tests. I cant see how this practice of going back to a&e and undermining the GP is valuable use of NHS resources. I was shocked at the lack of compassion and attention by senior staff ...which had the time to stand around chatting about their weekend break to London and picking up new cars! I have not been to hospital before and at all costs will be avoiding it again due to the lack of empathy, clarity and consistency. ..you should not base all diagnosis on blood tests! lets hope my GP can help!

My daughter was taken into Ysbyty Gwynedd by ambulance, the next day she had her gall bladder removed, whilst on Ogwen ward after the operation she had to continually ask for pain medication but she did receive it. Later, the same day as the operation she was moved to Dulas ward and here her requests for pain medication were ignored and in her words the staff seemed to be getting p****d off with her asking for it. When I arrived to collect her on the day after her operation as she was being discharged she was in pain and had only received two paracetamol for the pain. We then learned the reason why, when the staff change over came they forgot to mention that my daughter had had her gall bladder removed and her change over notes just mentioned she had gall stones. When the nurse discovered this she was very upset and apologetic, but it remains that my daughter had not received the correct medication for pain and neither had her dressings been checked. Maybe the trust need to look at the way notes are passed on when the shift changes. That is if they can remove themselves from their seats and do a bit of work for a change.

My husband was in Hebog Ward for almost 5 months and was treated with great kindness and consideration by both nursing staff and doctors. The family were also given much help, consideration and information during this time. I have nothing but admiration for the way the ward was run as it's an extremely busy ward. Our thanks to all the staff involved.

very prompt and professional diagnosis in A&E after a family member had a bad fall,once transferred to the ward for surgery everything went down hill rapidly, various "proffessionals" strutting up and reeling off information without any empathy or understanding that they are dealing with scared and distressed people [i.e senior staff such as doctors and anethatists] nurses/health care mostly polite but gave the impression that anything other than essential care wasa chore and seemed to want to sit around their station chatting as much as possible. Bad experience on follow up appointments with a rude nurse, tension in the plaster room with staff openly critacising the Trust and another employee refusing to do any tasks that the other staff asked her to do,insisted it was ok to take out stitches as they had been in for "well over 2 weeks",decided to leave them in when I pointed out it was in fact only 10 days,not as bad as the gentleman who I spoke to who had been matched with another persons notes! Second visit was uneventful apart from a major argument among the nurses and HCAs,queue tears and threats,all so very professional. The problems at this trust are well known but god help the person tasked with sorting this shower out, arrogance,indifference and laziness seems to be endemic, I just feel a lot of the staff have a high opinion of themselves and need to be brought down a peg or two and just get on with what they are paid to do instead of constantly whining about their lot.

I have been in and out of Dulas Ward at the hospital a few times, though the ward sisters can be rude and seem obnoxious I was always treated with care by the nurses. A night nurse called Sharon was my favourite as she always made time for me even though she was rushed off her feet and though professional she was always friendly. I see her round my home town and she still says hello. The carers can be a bit lazy

Waiting in a@e for 4 hours having had a seizure at home sorry but it's not on. Plus there was a wait for an ambulance up to 2 hours yes 2!!!!!!!! It's wrong.

My 90 year old mother fell in her care home and fractured her hip and shoulder. My mother has slight dementia but capacity to make decisions about her own care. Whilst on HDU she was well cared for but once she was moved onto Conwy Ward her her has been abysmal. On our first visit to her on the ward she had been put to sit in a chair despite saying she wanted to remain in bed (she had been bed bound prior to her fall), she was rocking back and forth in pain and the bell was out of her reach so couldn't ring for help. She crying in pain wishing God would let her die. On the board above her bed it stated her bp was to be taken from her left arm; the one that was broken. She was given an egg sandwich and chips for lunch despite been on a textured diet as she has swallowing difficulties. What more can I say so far her care has been well below acceptable minimum standard.
